On Sept 15th from 7 -9pm at LACE, Al Nodal will be giving a talk about the Lumens Project and he will treat us to a walk along Hollywood Blvd.
Join us to learn about the relighting of Los Angeles' historic neon signage has slowed in recent years, as previously available sources of city funding have gone dry. Several years ago, the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department (CAD) started a program entitled the "Living Urban Museum of Electric and Neon Signs" or LUMENS. Conceived by Al Nodal, former General Manager of CAD, the program is responsible for relighting over 150 signs throughout the Wilshire Corridor, Hollywood, and downtown Los Angeles.
Today, the LUMENs project is administered by the Museum of Neon Art with support from the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency, and private funding.
For more information on the LUMENs program and histories of several of the relit signs (including the Broadway-Hollywood), visit the MONA's website at: http://www.neonmona.org/. Once there, follow the "Glowing Future" link.
