Street Smart: Projects and Prototypes

On 11/13/10, Portable City was invited by Otis College of Art and Design and LACE to participate in Street Smart: Projects and Prototypes, a day-long event with a Los Angeles-centric look at the burgeoning field of arts-based public projects and practices. Fifteen artists and collectives offer rapid-fire presentations to examine a range of arts approaches, followed by a series of peer-to-peer roundtable workshops. This was the concluding event in Street Smart,  a series three events on public art. This program is presented through Otis' MFA Public Practice’s educational events, a higher degree college program dedicated to furthering dialogue within the Los Angeles public arts community; and through LACE's current year-long initiative, PUBLIC INTEREST, a series of installations, artist residencies and interventions to showcase contemporary art, architecture and design practices that challenge standard notions of public space through creative actions.
